Dons Storm the Castle, Defeat the Knights 13–5

Acalanes Varsity Women’s Water Polo Celebrating their win over the Las Lomas Knights

The weather was unseasonably hot as the Las Lomas Knights made there way onto the pool deck on Wednesday. Our Dons were ready to defend their pool as the ball dropped to start the game. Las Lomas won the sprint, but Acalanes regained control of the ball and got it to Finley Graff who found the back of the cage for goal #1. The Knights worked their ball down to the cage, but senior goalie, Adelyn Horciza made a grat block and the Dons regained possession. Junior Malin Stone drove the ball down, did a great twirl to lose her defender and sank the ball in the twine for goal #2. The Knights were getting restless and had a great steal but weren’t able to capitalize like the Dons who earned three more tallies on the board by Malin before the quarter ended.

As the quarter drew to an end, sophomore Jayna Guiro shot with authority to end the half with Acalanes in the lead 11-1.

Junior goalie Lucy McShane took over in goal and kept the strong blocks going. Lots of steals and attempted shots, but no more goals scored on either side. Las Lomas came out stronger in the final quarter of the game. They drew exclusions and despite some killer steals from Malin and junior Kylie Kaplan, the Knights scored three goals before the final buzzer rang. The Dons earned the win 13-4.
