It didn’t take long for the Acalanes women to show their strength last Wednesday against the Tamalpias Hawks. The Hawks won the sprint, but the Dons gained possession and sophomore Anika Rehn found the back of the net within the first 30 seconds of the game. The Dons continued to show their dominance with another goal from Anika and one more from senior Finley Graff. Junior Lucy McShane guarded the goal closely, batting down anything the Hawks threw at her. The quarter ended with a great pass from sophomore Elinor Chen to fellow sophomore Maddy Maurer who added one more goal to the tally.
Quarter two started out with more excitement from the Acalanes women. Anika flew off the line and won the sprint sending the ball down to junior Lily Briones for the first goal of the quarter. The next few minutes were full of steals from sophomores Lucy Kerr and Jayna Guiro. Tam gained momentum and started shooting, but Lucy continued to protect her goal with more sensational blocks. Juniors Malin Stone and Lily Briones scored for Acalanes but at the end of the quarter, Tam did get two goals on the board.
Anika started Q3 off with another speedy sprint which gave the Dons possession. Anika earned a 5m which Malin easily converted to another goal for Acalanes. Tam continued to battle and scored one more. On the next possession, Finley passed to Malin who found the back of the net. On the next play, Elinor found Lucy Kerr who netted another for Acalanes bringing the score to 11-3.
The final quarter started with a speedy sprint from sophomore Jayna, a steal from Finley and then a goal from Jayna. More exciting blocks from goal tender Lucy McShane. Junior Kylie Kaplan found the back of the next twice followed by one more goal from junior Emiko Kuniyoshi. The Hawks had a final push and scored one more before the final buzzer sounded and the Acalanes Dons took the 15-4 victory!
