Last Monday, the JV Flag Football squad hit the road for a tough matchup at Las Lomas. The Knights came in with confidence, carrying a strong record with only one loss to Castro Valley’s powerhouse program. Acalanes answered that challenge immediately, piecing together an impressive opening drive featuring determined runs from Daphne Hwang, Margaret Stirling, and Clara Sargent, plus a sharp 12‑yard catch‑and‑run by Norah Taylor. But despite the early push, Las Lomas held the goal line firm.
Both defenses dug in, trading stops throughout the first half and sending the game into halftime locked at 0–0. After the break, Las Lomas finally cracked the steady Acalanes defense, going up 0–6, then capitalizing on an interception to extend the lead. The Dons fought to the end but ultimately fell 0–12.
Defensively, Dheyila Guiro led the way with 8 flag pulls, Leah Andres added 3, and Margaret Stirling came up big with two interceptions.
On Wednesday, the Dons returned home to face a Northgate JV squad known for lighting up the scoreboard. Northgate lived up to that reputation early, scoring on its first 3 drives. The Acalanes quickly adjusted, tightening coverage and shutting Northgate down for the rest of the game.
The Dons answered in the second half with a drive capped by a clutch first‑down reception from Julia Polson Flanagin — on her birthday, no less — setting up the scoring opportunity. Sylvie Prado finished the job with a smooth touchdown in the corner of the end zone. Final score: Dons 7–18.
On defense, Clara Sargent led with 7 flag pulls, and Amber Qin delivered 3 sacks. Offensively, Daphne Hwang paced the team with 5 runs and 3 catches, followed by Leah Andres with 2 receptions. Quarterbacks Ivana Adolphson and Grace Natal handled the pressure well, mixing pass and run plays to keep Northgate guessing.
Saturday brought a scramble tournament at College Park, where the JV squad went 1–2, highlighted by an impressive win over Campolindo — a promising preview of their season‑ending matchup in October.
This week, the Dons head to Berean Christian on Monday before a Wednesday bye, as Miramonte does not field a JV team. Come support the Varsity squad this Wednesday at 6pm at our house.
