On Wednesday, the Dons traveled to Piedmont to talk on the Highlanders at the Corey Reich Tennis Center, which was named in honor of decorated coach Corey Reich who graduated from the school in 2004, was diagnosed with ALS in 2007, and returned after graduating to serve as the assistant coach of the boys and girls tennis teams ever since.
The Dons were short some players due to illness , and ended up losing the scrimmage match 7-0 despite 3 lines going to 3rd set tiebreakers. The team had 3 seniors who all played great in their varsity debuts, with Alessa Smith playing line 4 singles, and Gemma Satterfield and Carissa Penn playing line 3 doubles.
On the singles side, Liza Sokolova lost 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9 tiebreak) at Line 1, Audrey Tseng lost 7-5, 6-4 at Line 2, Jasmine Taylor lost 6-2, 6-4 at at Line 3, and Alessa Smith lost 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (10-5 tiebreak) at Line 4. On the doubles side, Sadie Moise and Louie Kubas lost 6-2, 6-1 at Line 1, Delphine Fisher and Maddie Obertello lost 7-5, 6-2 at Line 2, and Gemma and Carissa lost 7-5, 7-6 at Line 3. In the extended doubles match, Grace Colaco and Livvy Lewis lost 8-4.
The team continues the roadtrip next Thursday, taking on Emerald High School on September 3rd @ 4pm
