In their final match of the season – a home in-league bout against Northgate – the JV Dons finished strong with an 8-3 win. The four singles matches were split, and the doubles teams took six of seven.
In Line 1 Singles, Eddie Leung avenged a loss earlier in the season against the same opponent with a 8-5 win. Hieu Ho in Line 2 had some strong passing shots but fell 6-8. In Line 3, Ilai Elbaz displayed his growth in several areas but dropped the set 4-8. In Line 4, Jack Roberts won in a tie-breaker 9-8 (7-5) in a set that featured several long and hard-fought points.
The doubles teams brought their signature consistency. Hugo De Torres and Brandon Fu (Line 1) ran into an amped up pair and pushed them to the limit but dropped the set 6-8. In Line 7, Cade Krick and Charlie McIlwain also duked it out in a close one, persevering their way to an 8-6 win.
All other doubles lines won comfortably – Bryson Trimble and Parker Hulst (Line 2) at 8-1, Owen Lee and Cade Yen (Line 3) at 8-2, Tyler Anderson and Conrad Smith (Line 4) at 8-0, Teddy Mrachek and Will Mrachek (Line 5) at 8-4 and Hirsch Peters and Colin Wilson (Line 6) at 8-3.
The team ends with a 4-3 league record and 8-6 record overall.
A season that started with a historically high number of boys trying out ends with an accomplished group that flashed grit, camaraderie and ultimately a lot of growth with a ton of upside.
Go Dons!
