The JV Dons played a league match away against College Park last week on Tuesday and a non-league match at home against Freedom on Wednesday. Strong showings both days.
The final at College Park was 9-3. Acalanes took 5 of 7 singles matches, and 4 of 5 in doubles.
Singles:
· Line 1: Reed Lusch battled hard against a heavy and consistent hitter, ultimately succumbing 5-8
· Line 2: Eddie Leung came up big to win in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-3)
· Line 3: Hirsch Peters faced another tough opponent and fell 3-8
· Line 4: Jack Roberts took a close one, 8-6
· Lines 5-7: more comfortable. Ilai Elbaz won 8-3, Hieu Ho won 8-2 and Charlie McIlwain won 6-0, respectively.
Doubles:
· Lines 1-3: also comfortable. Hugo De Torres and Brandon Fu won 8-2, Parker Hulst and Bryson Trimble commanded at 8-0, and Owen Lee and Cade Yen won 8-2.
· Line 4: in a match that could not have been closer, Teddy Mrachek and Will Mrachek took it to the wire but fell in a tiebreaker, 8-9 (7-9)
· Line 5: Tyler Anderson and Colin Wilson played against their #1 team and won 8-5
The Freedom match played more like an exhibition. With the opponent fielding only seven players, it was best of two four-game sets. Acalanes handily swept singles and doubles.
