JV Women’s Soccer – Dons Cage Cougs in 3-0 Shutout

It was a strong start at the Aca stadium when – under five minutes in – Allie Schofield (#12) capitalized on a deflected defensive header to hit the back of the net and put the Dons on the board 1-0.

This JV squad has developed and refined to become a pleasure to watch – intentional passing from the midfield, strong circulation among the defense, high field IQ between the players, execution of complex plays, a clear positive dynamic between coaches and players, and decisive movement when opportunities arise. All of this combines to create an air of confidence, cool, and collaboration that delivers on the pitch.

Which makes it feel extra weird when the game is held up to debate where the coaches’ “boxes” are relative to the team benches and field and whether anyone should receive a warning, reprimand, let alone yellow card for a lack of clarity about it. But there’s a first time for everything.

Brooke Lewis (#0) and Alexa Wall (#22) were a dynamic duo on defense, letting nothing Campo tried get even close to being a threat. Alexa puts the Wall in defensive wall, stopping breakaways in their tracks with her whole self. Avery Titus (#3) and Audrey Tseng (#4) had some of the most beautiful cross/shot sequences we’ve seen and Avery is So. Effective. Down. The. Line. During stoppage, savvy play by Avery Adams (#6) exploited a Campo defensive error for a goal. Aca 2-0!

And that’s half. Here’s a deep and sincere nod to our Varsity Senior counterparts on their special night… we are SO proud of you as athletes and teammates and mentors and friends. Congratulations!

As the second half kicked off, déjà vu settled over the stands as Allie made it happen yet again before the five-minute mark. 3-0 Aca. Lots of ball movement and back and forth between these familiar teams and players. Another defensive misstep by the Cougars resulted in a corner for the Dons, which bounced around to finally hit the crossbar. Tons more offensive chances and Brooke saves and general great football and that’s all she wrote!

Come hit the Aca bleachers Saturday (2/7) at 4p as the Dons host Liberty. This gorgeous season is almost a wrap, so now’s the time to see these athletes in action and cheer on their continued success!

Let’s GO Dons!!
