
Acalanes delivered another impressive team effort Friday, defeating Clayton Valley Charter 53–48 to vault themselves to the top of the league standings.
The Dons came out aggressive in the opening quarter, taking a 16–11 lead behind active defense and confident shooting. Acalanes continued to apply pressure in the 2nd quarter, edging Clayton Valley Charter 14–11 to carry a 30–22 advantage into halftime.
Clayton Valley Charter made its push after the break, narrowing the margin with a 17-point 4th quarter, but Acalanes stayed composed down the stretch. Timely stops and key baskets allowed the Dons to protect the lead and close out the 5-point win.
Francesco Cangini led Acalanes with 15 points, knocking down 4 three-pointers and adding 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks in a complete two-way performance. Zenai Kaplanes-Jones followed with 12 points, connecting on 2 three-pointers and contributing 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Eli La Rotonda added 9 points, hitting 2 three-pointers and finishing with 3 assists.
Bobby Ruhl provided a physical presence inside with 7 points and 4 rebounds, while Drew Felder contributed 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block. As a team, Acalanes finished with 14 assists, connected on 11 three-pointers, and recorded 6 blocks on the defensive end.
The Freshman Dons have 2 games remaining this season, both at home. Acalanes will host Miramonte on Wednesday the 4th at 4:30 PM, followed by College Park on Monday the 9th at 4:30 PM.
