The Acalanes Sports Boosters proudly applaud Coach of the Year, Coach Blue — Joel Isaac — as honored by the East Bay Times and Bay Area News Group. Through a season defined by change and challenge, Isaac steadied a talented roster, united his players with purpose and resilience, and guided Acalanes to yet another remarkable campaign. For his leadership, preparation, and vision, Isaac was rightfully named the Bay Area News Group’s Coach of the Year.

Acalanes finished the season an impressive 11–1, advancing to the NCS Division I semifinals, where the Dons fell to Cardinal Newman. Competing at the highest division the program has ever reached in section playoffs, as recognized by MaxPreps, marked a historic milestone for the school.
Preparation was central to Isaac’s approach throughout the season. Daily focus on readiness for each moment, each week, and each challenge allowed the team to meet expectations and perform at a high level without surprise. The Dons were electric offensively, averaging an astounding 39.25 points per game and securing signature wins over Archbishop Mitty, Menlo-Atherton, St. Ignatius, Campolindo, Clayton Valley, and Marin Catholic. That is some true, ‘Fear the Blue’, there!
Yet it was on the defensive side of the ball where Isaac’s impact truly stood out. Acalanes held opponents to under 20 points per game and forced 25 turnovers, a major leap forward for a program that had long sought defensive consistency. By committing to strengthening the defense, Coach Blue helped establish a more complete and disciplined team identity.
In his first season as head coach, Isaac delivered an exceptional start while consistently crediting his players for their ability to face change head-on, remain focused, and push through early challenges together. A season defined by preparation, belief, and unity and a coach who led it all with purpose.
