Immediately following their crushing victory over El Cerrito High School on Tuesday night with a final score of 21-3, the Varsity Dons Mens Water Polo Team absolutely dominated Alameda’s Encinal High School at Wednesdays match leaving a final score of 12-5 as the packed stands cheered, screamed, rang cow bells, and shook blue & white pom poms. Players across the entire roster contributed to this victory showing the width and depth of the most promising (and largest) Boys Varsity WAPO Team that Acalanes has fielded in more than a decade. An astonishing 11 total Steals by were contributed by Seniors Owen Hulst, Ethan Zolboo, Nico Roig, and Mateo Picard; Junior Will Miller; Sophomores Adrian Anderson and Alex Lavoie; and Freshmen Borna Koopa and Aiden Castro. The 12 Goals were lead by Borna Koopa with four, Senior Thomas Parrott with two, and the remaining were all scored by Junior Ethan Zolboo, Sophomore Peter Endemann, Senior Nico Roig, Sophomore Adrian Anderson, Junior Isaac Topp, and Sophomore Charlie Holmes. Yet we all know that Water Polo is a Team sport, and Goals almost always require an Assist; Goal Assists were skillfully passed by Sophomores Alex Lavoie and Charlie Holmes who between them passed 5, and the other Assists were made by Will Miller, Adrian Anderson, Borna Koopa, Aiden Castro, and Peter Endemann while Junior Goalie Fisher Bradford-Urban also stopped the Jets in their tracks with 6 incredible Blocks. Encinals aggression increased as their losing score gap widened, culminating in one player getting Expelled for hitting Senior Owen Hulst in the face as he was deep in the hole about to score. But those sorts of illegal antics did not get past the Referees and did not stop the mighty Dons as they celebrated their second win in a row of the new season! This 21 strong Roster is heading north of Sacramento this weekend with Head Coach Nick Jordan for the two day Sierra Shootout Tournament where fans are breathlessly waiting to see the most victorious Tournament performance that Acalanes Varsity Mens Water Polo has laid down in years.
