Frosh and the Furious Rainy Day Battle

Coming off an early morning loss to Carondelet on Saturday, the girls frosh soccer team, known as The Frosh and the Furious, seemed poised to put the defeat in their rear-view mirror as they traveled to the home of the Dragons, Bishop O’Dowd.

The relentless rain continued on this soggy afternoon. But fearless as ever, the Dons came prepared and started off this match playing aggressively. The soggy field did not stop the great ball movement and fast play leading to some shots on goal, started by Svea Staino. And goalkeeper Alexa Bantique played well stopping numerous shots on goal by the opponents.

Halftime 0-0

In the second half, Bishop O’Dowd came out swinging with a quick breakaway towards the Dons goal. A cracker of a shot was taken only to see goalkeeper Alexa B fly sideways through the air to block an otherwise great shot. This was the save of the year.

Before we could blink, the Dons were on the move, all started by the strong play of June Natal. June broke down defenders with her determination, making the perfect through ball pass to the dragon slayer herself, Avery Titus. The dragons were no match for Avery’s speed as she buried a left footer in the back of the net. Dons 1-0.

The Dons continued their push with strong play by Courtney and Talia on defense, and Ruby and Allie on the offensive side. Even the parents from the opposing squad took notice of the aggressive play, which brings us to today’s Public Service Announcement. Soccer. Yes, it’s a contact sport.

As the clock started to wind down, a melee in the box led to a goal by the opposition which tied the game 1-1. The Furious made their final push with a near miss by Ruby Coy, but alas, the game ends again with a tie.

A solid game by the Dons.
