THE FROSH AND THE FURIOUS GIRLS SOCCER SHUTS OUT CAMPO, 3-0.

Anything’s possible in a rivalry, especially when you’re playing on the road. (Even if the roadie in question is just a short trek up Moraga Road.)

But great teams never let the moment get too big, which was the story on Saturday afternoon as the Frosh and the Furious took on the Cougars of Campolindo.

Striker Svea Staino and wing Eva McGinley set the pace in the early going, with Svea beating multiple defenders and Eva sending in a number of well-placed crosses. Meanwhile, Hannah Hoover was making her presence felt on defensive end, but Acalanes just couldn’t find the back of the net. One mad skirmish in particular resulted in shots by Sofie Kemper, June Natal, and Svea Staino, with the Campo keeper somehow stopping everything in quick succession.

But you can’t keep the Frosh and the Furious off the board for long. Svea unleashed a rocket from 20 yards out to start the scoring for Acalanes. Then Allie Schofield followed her steal and nifty sprint with a beautiful cross to Ruby Coy for a masterful one-timer to make it two-nil Acalanes just before the half.

In the second stanza, Courtney Hamill and Talia Tichenor continued their standout play on defense as Acalanes’ goalkeeper-by-committee kept the Cougars at bay. Then with 20+ minutes remaining, Eva and Svea connected at last, with Svea knocking in Eva’s corner kick for the Dons’ third—and what would amount to be final—goal of the afternoon.

With the 3-0 shutout, the Frosh and the Furious began what would ultimately be a collective clean sheet for the Dons Girls’ teams, not allowing Campo a single goal across all three Saturday games.
