JV Girls Soccer Falls 6-0 to Las Lomas

After securing 3 victories in a row, the JV girls soccer team hit the road on Thursday to take on a 11-3-1 Las Lomas Knights squad that looked every bit as good as their record would indicate. Although the Dons fought to a 0-0 tie in the first 10 minutes and last 20 minutes of the game, the 40 minutes in between were problematic as the Knights attack overwhelmed the Dons, scoring 6 unanswered goals. Not helping matters was the fact that several players missed the game due to injury or because they got called up to Varsity.

The offense had some opportunities early and late in the game, but was unable to get on the board. Caroline Tumilty continued her solid play. She had a great through pass that the team was unable to convert, one great shot that the Knights goalie was barely able to punch out of the goal, and a booming free kick that was seemingly blocked by the face of the Knights defender. Madison Bernstein (#12), Tatum Walsh (#13), Natalie Hamill (#21), and freshman call-up Allie Schofield (#10) also had shots on goal.

The defense was under duress for most of the game.  Ella Culbertson (#3), Olivia Kemp (#5), Evelyn Lee (#9), Olivia Bernier (#11), Michaela Barbano (#18) and the rest of the defense and holding midfielders tried their best to keep the Knights offense at bay, but despite their best efforts, the Knights scored a collective hat trick to end the first half and another one to open the second half.

I wanted to give a huge shout-out to freshman Hannah Hoover, who not only got called up to play with JV, but also volunteered to play goalkeeper, a position she has never played. I also wanted everyone to know that I reserve the right to give shout outs to players that don’t even attend the game as apparently happened at the last one. Lastly, I would like to again extend the offer to have a guest writer do the post game write up anytime the Dons lose a game in lopsided fashion. Go Dons!
