On Saturday, the JV Girls Soccer team travelled to Santa Rosa to take on Cardinal Newman and came out on top with the 1-0 win. The defense, anchored by Olivia Kemp, Molly Aldrich, Michaela Barbano, Sierra Goyert, Olivia Bernier, and goalie Cate Mercier, pitched its second consecutive shutout. Cate did a great job in goal. Cardinal Newman got close to tying the game with a shot deflected by Cate but still right in front of the goal, but Molly saved the day by knocking it out of harm’s way.

The team created a lot of opportunities on offense, but was stymied by the Cardinal goalie who was very effective at blocking many shots from Dons forwards Mila Ellis, Julia Munter, and Maddie Bernstein, and Chloe Caldeleas. Aliyah Vazquez-Fireman, Caroline Tumilty, and Natalie Hamill played midfield. Fortunately a goal early in the game by Julia was all the Dons defense needed to secure the victory.

Both Alexa Wall and Avery Titus, who were called up from the “Frosh and Furious” team, got significant amounts of playing time and had good games.
I wanted to give a few shout-outs. First, in case you didn’t notice, the quality of the pictures in this article were way better – thank you James Hamill! Second, I wanted to thank Coach Jose and Piper McGinley for sending me their notes as I opted to spend my weekend in Las Vegas instead of Santa Rosa. So what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but what happens in Santa Rosa gets written into a Boosters story.
Get to Know Coach: Coach Jose grew up in La Habra down in Orange County.
The team hopes to continue adapting to each other and building team chemistry as they turn their focus to tonight’s game @ 5pm at home against Bishop O’Dowd
