Welcome to December as the women of the Frosh and the Furious Acalanes soccer team did some early Christmas shopping at the Campolindo goal. June Natal started the day with a present off of a deflection scoring the Dons first goal of the day within just 3 minutes of the starting whistle. Svea Staino was quick to follow burying the next goal with a pretty right-footed shot to give the Dons a 2-0 lead. But before you had time to blink, Eva Mcginley made quick work of a defender and sent a great cross to the waiting June Natal for a perfect header in to the net for her second goal of the day. The Dons were dominating with a score of 3 to 0 within the first 13 minutes of play.
Campo managed to get an offensive play going, but it was quickly interrupted by Courtney Hamill who was able to block one of the Cougars few shots on goal. It’s a perfect example of just how strong the Dons defense is. From the likes of Alexa Wall, Talia Tichenor, and Courtney Hamill, just to name a few, the Great Wall of China has nothing on these girls.
Later in the first half, Avery Titus had a nice dish to Penny Haslam whose shot hit the right post. But soon thereafter Avery seemingly took on the entire defense only to make a great another great pass to Sofie Kemper who was expertly positioned at the far post and scored goal 4 for the Dons.
The second half started like the first, more shopping on goal for the Dons as Piper Anderson had a nice pass to Svea Staino for a pretty goal to put the team up 5-0. The Don’s continued to trample the Cougars, only visiting our back field so our defensive squad could exhaust the Campo players with some perfectly timed passing and maneuvering on their way up to barrage of shots on goal. A gorgeous corner kick from Svea was knocked in to the net by June bringing the score up to 6-0, Dons. This sports reporters fingers were exhausted trying to scribble down all the Acalanes squads attempted goals, but there were some real beauts from Eloise Greeson and Livvy Lewis that just missed the target, and even one from deep by defender Talia Tichenor.
This girls really seemed to have a blast in this match and did a great job utilizing the whole squad for victory. Audrey Tseng and Shelley Khan both had great games and Courtney Hamill’s boot was a force to be reckoned with. Delphine Fisher’s bloodied lip was a testament to the teams refusal to let their commanding lead lessen their intensity. And lastly, a special shoutout to Hannah (no fear) Hoover who held down the goalie position all while getting no action, only to come in on defense and shut things down with her aggressive play and great touch.
Another great win for the Frosh and the Furious keeping the undefeated season alive.
Until next time, Go Dons!
