Acalanes vs. Benicia, Oct 3
I spoke too soon, when I noted the laundry list of Dons on the injured reserve last week; the list unfortunately got longer. But just like last week, the rest of the team rose to the occasion and delivered a 36 to 26 victory over Benicia.
Treysen Roberts (11) had his best show of the season. A master in the wildcat formation. He had 14 carries, three touchdowns and one, two point conversion. But remember he did not do this alone, he had great blocks from the O-line to deep into the end zone. I know I did not get all of this great teamwork, but Trey needs start by thanking these guys: Kyle Sanfter (67), Grady Branagh (76), Joe Wilson (68), Matei Bolata (60), Gino Rubio (27), Sean Tandler (55), Mason Andersen (21), Finn Aiken (15) and Nick Zagorov (5).
Nate Lederman (7) got his first start at QB and he took advantage of the opportunity. He connected with five different receivers: Nick Zagorov (5), Treysen Roberts (11), Marco Long (19), Gino Rubio (27) and Finn Aiken (15). One of Aiken’s (15) catches was for 6. Long (19) had a 70 yard run for a TD.
Sean Tandler (55) and Kyle Sanfter (67) continued their roles of Mr. Reliable 1 & 2, but given the holes in the line-up they got their first, well deserved, tastes of glory. Tandler (55) ran for his first two point conversion. Sanfter (67) ran into the end zone for his first TD. They of course still crushed their day jobs, each with five tackles, Sanfter recording a sack (and that guy did not go down easy) and Tandler had a key fumble recovery.
This match up also shed some light on a number of players filling new roles. Brayden Hattersley (44) had a solid performance: five tackles (one being a touchdown saving tackle) and he blocked an extra point. Pedro Sakaguti (83) had five carriers, one for an impressive 50 yards. Isaiah Castillo (26) recorded his first tackle. In the fourth quarter with Benicia driving, Coach Hansen put in fresh legs on defense. William Mrachek came through with two key tackles, and Colin Wilson (70) did his job on the line, putting strong pressure on Benicia’s QB.
The top tackler on the day was Brennan Visnick (89) with six. Marco Long (19), Gino Rubio (27), Branden Hattersley (44), Sean Tandler (55), Matei Bolata (50), Kyle Sanfter (67), Grady Branagh (76), Josh Sinha (87) all had at least three tackles.
