The bats blistered as the Dons traveled to Walnut Creek on Thursday afternoon to play a league game against Berean Christian and collected 18 hits and 23 runs in a high scoring affair winning the game 23-10. Playing their third game in three days, the Dons have now won 4 in a row and 9 of their last 10 to push their record to 16-5 on the season. The final game of the regular season is next Tuesday at Las Lomas. It is a short ride for a chance to support this red hot team, please come out and root them on!
The Dons jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning scoring 10 runs. Emme Young and Avery Robb got things started, both drawing a walk to bring up the dangerous Esa Orman, who singled to load the bases. Santana Tamayo then singled to drive in a run and was followed by a line drive single from Maya Shoenhair to drive in another run. Gabby Huerta then singled on another line drive, to be followed on a single from Riley Zirkel. Then with two outs, Young was back up and hit a single up the middle to score two more runs. Orman singled again to drive in another run. When the dust settled, the Dons had pushed 10 across the plate.
Having to play their third game in three days, the pitching for the Dons continued to be strong for the Dons as Shoenhair started in the circle for the Dons and was relieved by Lana Cerejo. And the Catchers Orman and Ella Greenfield behind the dish did a great job framing pitches and not letting any balls get past them. Additionally, there were a few highlight defensive plays throughout the game. Zirkel had a nice unassisted double play. Lauren Foster made a great catch late in the game in right field with the sun in her eyes. Tamayo and Nicole Parlett teamed up for the final out of the game as Tamayo scooped up a ground ball and fired across the diamond to a stretching Parlett.
Zirkel was on fire at the plate driving six runs on three hits including an inside the park grand slam in the 6th inning to seal the victory. Young, Vanessa Choi, Robb, Foster, Tamayo and Orman each collected multiple hits while the Dons also amassed nine walks in the game.
The final game of the regular season is at Las Lomas, Tuesday May 7th at 4:30. Please come out and cheer on the Dons as they look to close out the regular season before playoffs start.
