Varsity Girls Lacrosse Vanquish Northgate Broncos 16-9

Just like with other sports, there are many slang terms used in Lacrosse. Obvious ones include Ball Hunt (player searching for a lost ball), BTB (behind the back), Cage (the goal), Coast-to-Coast (defender carries ball length of field and scores), Dime (good pass), Frozen Rope (hard shot), Hatty (3-goal game), Lax Rat (player who eats, breaths, and sleeps lacrosse), Loosie (loose ball), Pipe City (hitting the post on a shot), and Stuff (close range save by goalie). Less well known ones include Apple (assist), Freshie/Pearl/Cupcake (new ball), Goose it (flipping the ball from the ground to a teammate), Rip Twine (goal), Top Cheddar (shot that scores in top part of goal), Turf Monster (unseen beast that causes player to trip and fall by themselves on turf), Twizzler (backhand scoop shot), Yard Sale (player gets their stick checked out of their hands), and my personal favorite the Grandpa Goal (when the ball hits the outside of the net and no one but your grandpa yells “Nice Goal”).

The Girls Varsity Lacrosse team made their second trip this season to Walnut Creek to take on the Northgate Broncos, and for the second time won scoring 16 goals. The team actually got outscored by two goals in the 2nd and 4th quarters, but still cruised to a 16-9 win after dominating performances in the 1st and 3rd quarters. Here is the recap using as many slang terms as possible.

On offense, Lucca Debiasse continued her offensive onslaught with a “Hatty”, but this game was well balanced as Grace Colaco, Stella Hamilton, Grace Imrie, Catalina Liu, and Ella Thomason each chipped in two “Rip Twines”. Charlotte Gellman, Reese Imrie, and Emily Roberts each had one “Rip Twine”. I saw some “Frozen Ropes” and “Top Cheddar”, but don’t believe I saw any “Grandpa Goals” on the day. Maia Upp registered three “Apples”, Stella had two (including one where she initially ran the wrong direction but turned around and came all the way back to register the assist), and Lucca, Grace Colaco, Charlotte, Reese Tierney, and Grace Imrie each had one. Stella and Grace Imrie each corralled two “Loosies”, and Maia, Tea Smith, Claire Zimmerman, Charlotte, and Reese Tierney each had one. Stella had 5 draw controls (couldn’t find a slang term), Grace Colaco had 4, Grace Imrie had 3, and Lucca and Reese Imrie each had one.

The defense was once again anchored by goalie Addie Martin (not to be confused with the Northgate goalie also named Addie). Our Addie tallied 7 “Stuffs” and was assisted by a few “Pipe City” shots. She was supported as usual by the stalwarts on defense, including Avery Ives, Claire Zimmerman, Reese Tierney, and Elsa Braunstein. Claire had one rejection that looked more like a blocked shot in basketball. And the defense fought through a “Ball Hunt” situation where the ball disappeared into the uniform of a Northgate player.

The Dons win pushed their season record to 10-4 on the season.
