Gauchos Wrangle Boys Varsity Lacrosse 17-7 in a Dramatic Game of Ups and Downs

The boys varsity boys lacrosse team faced off against Casa Grande surrounded by the green hills of Petaluma. The game started off with a mixture of brilliant sun, ominous rainclouds, and dramatic downpours much like the game itself.

The Gauchos came out with a ferocious offensive start and ran up the score 6-0 before the Dons could catch their breath. But the sun came out in the second quarter and the Dons found their footing. Brody Darin got a sweet assist from Marshall Anderson to score and start the offensive comeback. Then, freshman Caleb Mason saw an opportunity from a ways out and fired a brilliant unassisted shot for the second goal of the quarter. Another nice goal from Darin along with tenacious defense from Davis, Malmquist and Finegold held the Gauchos to just 3 more goals for a perfectly matched second quarter.

In the third quarter the Gaucho offense rained down again on the Dons with 5 more goals. Sophomore Jan Korzeniowski found a way to penetrate the crease and scored one in the third quarter. The fourth quarter the Dons stepped it up on both sides of the field with 2 more goals from Korzeniowski, good ball movement and relentless defense from junior defensive midfielder Sam Bishop who forced multiple turnovers and gave the Dons important possessions. One final goal from senior Marshall Anderson ended the 4th quarter which turned out to be very evenly matched. Overall, outstanding efforts from this team with some new players working into the rotation and great attitudes all around. And licking your wounds with your teammates over a few double doubles is always a good idea. Go Dons!
