The Acalanes girls Frosh/Soph team’s second weekday game on Tuesday, January 30th against Miramonte started with a big battle in the midfield and a nice save by Don’s keeper Amelia Riley (#3). Shortly after, the Dons win a corner and winger Svea Staino (#14) ripped it in with a scramble that almost led to a goal. Then midfielder Kate Beaver (#5) burst down the left crossing it to midfielder Eloise Greeson (#11), who got a shot off, but was saved by the keeper. Svea Staino (#14) passed to Eloise Greeson (#11), who shot, and the ball went just wide of the post. No score in the first half, but a solid effort from the Dons. At the start of the second half, winger Hannah Hoover (#9) broke down the right and gpt a shot off that was saved by the keeper. Then defender Molly Aldrich (#19) stopped a rampaging run through the middle by a Miramonte player. Winger Mila Ellis (#22) broke through the defense and shot wide. She shot again and it was saved for a corner. Still no goals for the Dons, but good defense from Hannah Hoover (#9), despite her broken toe, kept Miramonte at bay. Final score 0-0 with a battle in the midfield until the very end.
