Varsity Boys Lacrosse falls to Serra 7-5 in Thrilling and Wet Season Opener

The Dons fired up the season with a thrilling comeback game against Serra High School in a night of steady rain. The Padres started out the first quarter with 4 unanswered goals but this did not rattle the Don’s confidence. Sophomore Jan Korzeniowski scored the first goal of the season in the first quarter followed up with a beautiful shot from senior Marshall Anderson in the second. The Dons came back to tie it up in an explosive third quarter with a goal from Brody Darin and two from Simon Appel. The defense, led by Collin Malmquist and James Davis, held back the Padres for a scoreless third quarter and goalie Val Grossi had an outstanding game with 8 saves. But in the final quarter, Serra scored 2 goals to secure a 7-5 win over the Dons.

The Dons headed into the ’24 season with some uncertainty. Losing 15 seniors last year and most of their coaching staff left some wondering what the season would look like. But with 3 Acalanes Lacrosse alums joining the coaching staff (Nate Welcomer, Jack Wickline and Reed Watson) and some returning players stepping into crucial leadership roles, the varsity boys proved they’re ready to battle. Fans look forward to what the season has in store.
