JV Girls Soccer Defeats Ygnacio Valley Wolves 8-0

The JV Girls soccer team cruised to 8-0 victory over the Ygnacio Valley Wolves on Thursday.  This one was never in question, which led to the girls passing the ball around most of the game.  After getting some comments about using ChatGPT for the last article, I tried to go back to the well and queried “soccer not allowed to shoot”.  The response I got back really didn’t make sense: “Why did the soccer player bring string to the game? Because he wanted to tie the score, but shooting wasn’t allowed.”  Not sure why you wouldn’t be allowed to shoot if the team was losing.

Anyway, the team got on the board early with a goal by Katelyn Weiss on an assist from Grace Colaco.  I think it might have tied the record for the fastest goal ever scored, which was set by Turkish striker Hakan Şükür who scored 11 seconds into a match during the 2002 FIFA World Cup (I think ChatGPT got that one right).  Other goals were registered by Grace Colaco, Julia Lyons, Lidia Stahl, Sophie Gold, Maya Shinaman, and Ella Culbertson.

Despite the lopsided score, there were some memorable moments.  The highlight was goalies Cate Mercier and Sophie Gold both playing forward at the same time, Cate urging Sophie not to go offsides, and Sophie scoring a goal that brought smiles to her and everyone else on the field and in the stands.  Congratulations Sophie!

Goalie Sophie Gold (#23) is all smiles after scoring!

It marked a milestone for the team as now everyone has scored. The team has also gone 5 consecutive games without allowing a goal.

There were some great conversations in the stands.  I heard about some interesting changes to NCS next year that will affect all the varsity sports. Teams will be in one of seven divisions determined by enrollment, and the top-eight qualifying teams, regardless of division, will participate in the Open/Division I playoffs based upon their MaxPreps’ computer-generated rankings.  For more info, click here

On a lighter note, we talked about first concerts attended, and got some great ones like Whitney Houston, the Jackson 5, and Air Supply.  Sierra Culbertson introduced me to the heated stadium chair, which sounds awesome.  And lastly, there were a couple outlandish proposals like having fans pick the article title such as “At Least it Didn’t Rain”, or having guest writers do the articles (Ok that was my idea because at last count I have written 79 Boosters articles in my career and am running out of new ideas).
