The Dons faced off against College Park in another rainy and slippery match this week on Tuesday. The girls battled the entire first half of the game with a few chances at goals, but not a ton of shots were taken by either team.
The Dons’ offense really came to life at the start of the second half. Nicole Nguyen and Ella Thomason both took great shots in the first ten minutes. After building out of the back, Thomason made a beautiful cross to Nguyen who finished with a strong bar down goal. 1-0 Dons. Megan Yee took a shot 5 minutes later, but the College Park goalie saved it. Dons Goalie Melisa Adatepe had an amazing save off of a College Park free kick. Nguyen made a long run towards the goal and took a shot that went high. Thomason sent a through ball to Livi Foster for a breakaway and a beautiful shot into the left corner of the goal. 2-0 Dons. College Park tried to make up some ground with a strong shot on goal that Adatepe saved, yet again, to maintain the shutout. Later in the game, Yee took a free kick that the Falcons’ goalie initially saved, but it bounced out of her hands. Foster tracked down the rebound and scored her second goal of the game. The Lady Dons took the victory 3-0!
Next week will be a busy one for the Dons with two home games. The first will be against Alhambra on Tuesday, January 23 at 7pm and the other will be the highly anticipated rematch against Campolindo on Thursday, January 25 at 7pm. The team would love to see fans in the stands for both! Let’s go, Dons!
