DONS VARSITY BOYS SOCCER BLANK CONCORD TO MOVE TO 4-1 IN LEAGUE PLAY

On a crisp winter night in Concord on Thursday, the Dons varsity boys took the pitch against the Concord High Bears and emerged with a convincing 2-0 victory.  The Dons dominated possession of the ball throughout the game with some nifty ballhandling by midfielders Colby Ebner, Colin Sohn, and Lucian Krage Zillas along with forwards Ben Pecci, Niko White, and Lucas Dissman consistently outracing the Bears defenders to the ball.  The Dons had numerous scoring opportunities but couldn’t get on the scoreboard until about 20 minutes into the match when Lucas Dissman assisted to Niko White for a header goal. The Dons continued to push the ball deep into the Concord penalty area and finally managed a second goal with Niko White assisting to Colby Ebner.  The Dons backline provided their usual sturdy defense when Concord did make a push and threatened with several corner kicks. Goalkeepers Jake Boselli and Evan Sverak posted a clean sheet, with Sverak making a diving save in the second half to preserve the 1-0 lead at the time.

Earlier in the week, the Dons faced off against the Clayton Valley Ugly Eagles in a big league matchup of two undefeated teams. Just as the home crowd was settling in, the Eagles jammed in a loose ball in front of the net in the first minute of action to take the lead. However, the Dons battled back and tied the score about halfway through the first half when Niko White darted through the middle of the defense to put the Dons on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, early in the second half an Eagles forward leaked through the Dons’ defense to net the go-ahead goal.  The Dons continued to put the pressure on and nearly scored off a penalty kick and later a corner but just couldn’t muster up that second goal.

Next up for the Dons is the College Park Falcons at Acalanes next Tuesday at 715pm.
