Girls Varsity Soccer took on the Alhambra Bulldogs at home on Tuesday night. The game kicked off with Acalanes dominating the first 5 minutes, controlling the ball and pressuring the Alhambra goal. Despite a foul that temporarily shifted possession, Acalanes quickly regained control. Tatum Keely showcased a strong drive with a shot narrowly missing the target. Alhambra made several attempts to breach the Acalanes defense, but the Dons held strong. Lucca DeBiasse and Ella Thomason had notable shots that didn’t find the back of the net, keeping the score level.
A pivotal moment occurred when Stella Hamilton’s high cross led to Alhambra fouling Taylor Mikalis in the penalty box. Demi Woods capitalized on the penalty shot, putting Acalanes ahead 1-0 as the first half concluded.
The second half began with both teams making quick shots, but the Dons’ goalkeeper, Melisa Adatepe, made crucial saves. A series of offensive plays by Ella Thomason, Reese Tierney, and Nicole Nguyen kept the pressure on Alhambra. Unfortunately, a questionable out of bounds determination resulted in a corner kick for Alhambra, leading to a tying goal, making the score 1-1. Alhambra seized another opportunity taking a free kick from just outside the box. The ball soared way wide to the left, but Alhambra managed to volley a lob shot over the Dons’ defense, securing a late lead of 2-1, which proved insurmountable for Acalanes.
Despite a valiant offensive effort in the closing minutes, the clock ran out, and the Dons suffered a tough 2-1 loss to the Alhambra Bulldogs. The good news for the Dons is that they have the perfect opportunity on Thursday night at 7pm to take out their frustration and avenge their loss against Camplindo at home.
