Record: 8-2

Christmas came early for Coaches Eric Thomas and Matt Thomas. The Junior Varsity basketball team gifted the brothers a season high 82 points in their victory over the Concord Minutemen. The win improved the young Dons to 8-2 for the season.

The Dons love to start each game with a Lorenzo Cangini three pointer, and true to form, this game started with a Lorenzo swishing a three from outside. Chase Bahou followed with another three pointer and Josh Elerts drove the lane for a nice layup. The Acalanes Dons were quickly up 8-3. Acalanes continued the scoring onslaught. Chase stole the ball for a layup followed by a Julian Hood three pointer. Landon Deily and Arman Craig scored inside to extend the Dons lead by seventeen points. Great interior passing and another three pointer by Julian ended the quarter. The Dons controlled the game, 28-8.

In the second quarter, the Dons showed no holiday mercy. Julian continued to hit three pointers as did Donovan McGrath. Josh Elerts, who had six steals in the game, fed Deonte Littlejohn for a nice layup. Sean Khouw captured a huge rebound. The Dons comfortably led 51-9 at halftime.

The third quarter showcased the Dons deep talent. Lorenzo, Josh, Julian, and Chase continued to score. Landon Deily scored four points in a row. The young Dons were demolishing the home team. After three quarters, Acalanes led by 55 points.

In the final quarter, Coach Thomas decided to mix and match his lineups to see which players worked well together. One of these pairings was Nico Ortman with Spencer Clark. Nico dished to Spencer for several easy layups. Nico and Sean also hit three pointers. It was a complete team effort. The final score was the Acalanes Dons 82, the Concord Minutemen 21.

When asked about the team first philosophy, center Landon Deily had this say: “We play as a team. We are family. We work hard so everyone has an opportunity to play.”

The JV Basketball team will continue their season in the JV Dougherty Valley Tournament. The first tournament game is scheduled for Thursday, December 28 at 9am. All games will be played at Dougherty Valley. We hope your family supports the JV Hoopsters during the holiday season.
