Once again, the Dons dominated in their game against the Berean HS Eagles. The Eagles started out strong with the first shot on goal which went wide. Acalanes quickly fought back with Stella Hamilton gaining control and following up with a shot on goal that also went just wide. Acalanes continued to pound the Eagles’ goalie with great shots from Hamilton, Tatum Keely, Taylor Mikalis, and Livi Foster throughout the first half. With only 20 seconds left in the first half, Ella Thomason had a great through ball assist that resulted in the first goal of the game, scored strongly by Foster. Acalanes ended the first half leading 1-0.
The second half started with a bang, only one minute in, with a great high shot by Sisi Houston, assisted by Thomason, that just skimmed off the inside of the crossbar, which made it a 2-0 game. Shortly thereafter Sisi scored again with a strong left-footed shot off the post into the corner of the net, this time assisted by Foster, to make it 3-0. Great passing and defense by the Dons kept the ball near the Eagles goal for most of the half. Another drive resulted in a strong goal by Ella off an assist from Foster, bringing the score to 4-0. A strong drive by the Eagles brought the ball back towards our goal, but was ultimately thwarted by Demi Woods. Acalanes got control back to our offensive end of the field when Danica Green (guest playing from JV) took a great shot just wide of the goal. Our next goal came from a deflected shot by Zoya Acuña that the Eagles goalie saved out to Nicole Nguyen, who lifted her shot into the back of the net, bringing the score to 5-0. A strong pass from Reese Tierney across the front of the goal resulted in another Hamilton shot just wide of the goal. Our next goal came from Acuña, off a great assist by Megan Yee, to bring the score to 6-0. Leila Hamidi then had a strong shot deflected by the goalie which resulted in a follow-up shot and goal by Green, bringing the score to 7-0. Another cross by Kailee Van Handel resulted in Nicole’s second goal of the game, to make it 8-0. The Dons dominated the entire game even though the Eagles fought hard throughout.
Come out and cheer on the Dons as they host Las Lomas on Friday night at 7pm in what promises to be an extremely competitive match up! Let’s go, Dons!
