Frosh/Soph Girls Soccer Season Debut

Acalanes girls Frosh/Soph team came together for the first game this season against College Park under grey, rainy skies and a sopping wet field.  Madison Bernstein (#23), with her booming left foot, had two shots on goal within the first 15 minutes of the game that the College Park goalie was just barely able to stop. College Park scored the first rather uneventful goal of the game 23 minutes in. Cassidy Smith (#8) had several throw-ins that went so far down the field you’d think she drop kicked the ball if you did not see it with your own eyes.  Then within seconds of half time, Mila Ellis (#22) scored a glorious goal to go into the half and tie the game 1-1.  In the second half, Rory O’Farrell  battled hard with her trademark tenacity.  College Park scored their second goal of the game about 20 minutes into the half despite the strong defensive play of Natalie Hamill (#21) and goalie Lily Cervenka. Final Score 2-1 College Park.

The second game of the day was the Acalanes home game vs. Miramonte. The Dons came out strong with Kate Beaver (#5) scoring within minutes of the start.  The sky opened and the rain was coming down hard.  The second goal of the game came off a beautiful pass from Hannah Hoover (#9) to the center of the goal to make it 2-0 Dons.  Acalanes dominated the field and kept the ball in front of the Miramonte goal for nearly the entire half.  Kate Beaver (#5) had another shot on goal, but the Miramonte goalie was able to get a hand on it and just keep it from going in.  Shortly after that Svea Staino (#14) launched a powerful shot that just clipped the left post and missed.  Natalie Hamill (#21), our dependable defender, nailed a goal shot over the opposing players right into the back of the net on a foul kick. Mila Ellis (#22) drove one into the goal to make it 3-0 Acalanes at the end of the first half. Riley Zirkel (#20) had a great shot at goal that just missed. Kate Beaver scored the fifth goal of the game with 13 minutes left. The game ended in a downpour of rain and goals with the girls really coming together to finish the game 5-0 Dons.

The next chance to come out and cheer on the Frosh/Soph girls is Saturday December 2nd vs. Bishop O’Dowd and Northgate High School.
