Acalanes v. las Lomas knights.
Las Lomas travels well and their stands were pretty packed with fans…but the Dons roll deep and we made a lot of noise!
Game 1.
Game one opened up with some back and forth with highlights coming from light touches at the net from Meher and Ellie B. Speaking of Ellie proved a tough challenge for the Knights who found her serve too hot to handle! Her serve was strong with support from Valeria blocked at the net, solid libero grand by Stella Larkin and continued sets by Sydney Graves.
A incredible play of game 1. was a Stella Larkin save at the net to keep a rally alive and it was 7-4 Dons. And an Ellie one handed save to Stella to Meher tap tap over the net and we turned around and it was 11-6.
Amelia met the knights head on in a serious joust of Will and after 1 high velocity serve the knights needed a T.O. But it didn’t help them as Amelia proceeded to take the next two and we were at 13-7 when the knights finally got it back.
But they hadn’t met Ella Chong who climbed the LADDER and pummeled the knights to take it back. Ellie B slammed another one and Stella Larkin had the serve. And with impeccable form (ok, I’m her dad) she took a few from Las Lomas.
But the knights weren’t ready for bed just yet and it was 17-11.
18-13
18-14
18-15
Dons T.O.
A great post TO combo of Stella, Meher and Ellie gave us another point, but the teams traded points back and forth for a while.
At 22-19 Amelia took the serve and unleashed her trademark high velocity serve to take another point, but even after a great rally with wicked touches from Ella Chong, Sydney Scovic and Maggie Krackeler, the knights took another point and it was 23-21. But Maggie K slammed home the last few points and game 1 was ours. As the Vegas bookmakers had predicted.
Game 2.
I mean sometimes you are like, “Do we need a game 2?” You know, because we crush but rules are rules so the Dons went to work and Val set by Syd backed up by Ellie and Meher had the Dons in the lead.
But only for a minute as before too long the teams were handing off points to stay tied.
But a great diving save by Stella and a soft touch by Sydney Graves followed by some authoritative serving by Amelia – I mean they CALL it a right arm, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some bionics in there – and it was 9-6 Dons and the Knights took a T.O.!
A MONSTER smash by Ella Chong and another MONSTER smash by Ella and two great Sydney Graves ACE’s, set and smash by Sydney and Meher, and the Dons had a 15-10 lead.
After dropping a few points a cross court precision shot by Meher and the Dons had some momentum. A great point from Stella to Maggie, a killer save from Brooke Rardin and Amelia had the ball again. 18-15 Dons.
Diving save by Stella with a finish from Maggie. 21-15.
At 22-15 the Knights got another shot and the Dons lined up on defense. We all know what that means: we get the ball back. And get it back we did! And with some handy work Ellie to Amelia to Maggie and the Dons took game 2!
And those Dons JV girls REMAIN undefeated!!!!
Go Dons!!!
