Girls Varsity Volleyball beat Rancho Cotate in Round 1 of NCS

Earning a 4th seed in the 2023 North Coast Section Girls Volleyball Championships allowed our Lady Dons to host at least one home game. Facing the Rancho Cotate Cougars for the second time this season, the Dons hoped the familiarity with the opponents would serve them well. It sure did.

In set 1, #13 Addi Ames came out hot with a thunderous kill and a well-placed ace. #11 Christina Hageboeck set-up #7 MaeLin Mason with a perfect set that resulted in a punishing kill. #17 Sophia Terry continued her strong middle play with multiple kills and a massive roof block. Christina also had multiple aces that gave the Dons the victory in set 1, 25-13

In set 2, #10 Annie Baker had a couple of well-placed serves to get the team rolling again. Rancho Cotate were pushing hard to even the score in sets, but the Dons were having none of it. #9 Piper Coy had multiple kills along with a sweet block that had the Cougars on their heels. #1 Jade Profilio had a few of her trademark super digs to save some points for the Lady Dons. # 2 Nisa Khoury had multiple digs from the back row to keep the rally going. Sophia continued her strong play with more ferocious kills. #5 Mimi Maycock also had some strong play from the middle position to make sure no Cougar comeback was possible. The Lady Dons won set #2 25-23.

In set 3, Piper started off the scoring with another kill off the defensive blockers. Maelin had a huge kill of the blockers to gain another point. #4 Mika Bocobo drilled an ace that shook the roof. Christine had one of her 5 kills in the game to help seal the deal. Addi had an ace as well to increase the Lady Dons lead. Piper finished the set and the match with a blistering kill, winning the set 25-13 and taking them into the second round set for Saturday at 7:00 PM against Petaluma.
