JV GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TAKES ON NORTHGATE!

Acalanes v. Northgate

The Northgate Broncos found their way to the Acalanes Don’s Gymnasium for their matchup with the Dons, hot off of their impressive showing in the Sonoma tournament last Saturday.

Game 1. A tale of epic rallies!

Sydney Graves opened up with 3 straight serve points against the Broncos aided by some soft touches from Valeria Toledo at the net.

After 1 serve by the horses, Sela Sarbiewski took it back with a slam to the floor. And the Dons were up 4-1.

Amelia Easley serving for three straight points forces a Bronco time out at 9-3 Dons.

The Broncos rallied to bring the score to 11-11 when Sydney Graves came fresh off the bench to settle the team with her cannon arm. Now Acalanes had the lead at 13-12.

But that quickly faded and at 13-14 Broncos, coach Alan called a timeout to help the Dons regroup. An epic rally ended with a resounding thud from Meher Jeyakrishnan to tie the score and take back the serve.

Maggie Krackler ended a point slide with a definitive winner and it was 15-19 Broncos.

At 17-21, Amelia took serve for the Dons and started chipping away. A “no thank you very much” return at the net from Sydney Scovic kept the rally going as did an awesome dig by Stella Larkin and an epic rally that included the I-beams in the gym, brought the score even at 21 all and a Bronco time out.

At 22 all, Krackler started popping off, supported by a cast hungry to win! And an epic series of one-handed saves, gave the Dons game 1!!

Game 2

The Dons opened up by taking the serve from the Broncs.

Valeria took the serve with the Dons up 3-1 and took a couple off the Broncos before they took it back but Sydney Scovoc wasn’t having any of it and shoved a ball right into the floor on their first serve.

Back and forth the momentum went until Valeria stuffed one and gave the serve to Ellie Blanchard at 12-7 Dons lead.

Crazy nice dig from Stella kept it alive and it was 13-7. But the Broncos went on a run and suddenly it was 14-14.

Ellie Blanchard had an awesome cross court shot to take the serve back and put it in Amelia’s hands. An ace got her started and it was 16-14 Dons. Ella Chong put some spin on the ball to show the Broncos what finesse looks like and it was 19-16 Dons. Nails were being bitten in the stands…

Then one of the most epic rallies filled with 1 handed grabs and crazy gets and saves on both sides ended with an Acalanes point and it was 19 all.

Then 20 all.

21-20 broncos and they were serving. But the Dons took it back.

21-21

22-21 Acalanes

Sydney Graves was serving and suddenly it was 24-21 Dons. But it wasn’t over…the Broncos had the serve but it wasn’t enough, they stuffed it into the net and the Dons win!!

One thing is for sure, these Don JV girls DON’T QUIT!!!
