Frosh Girls Volleyball has Strong Showing

Last week the Frosh volleyball team had a strong showing, demonstrating their growing skills and great teamwork. On Tuesday they battled Rancho Cotati in a 2 set match. The first set featured deadly serves by Lily Cervenka, Lexi Chaput and Devin Murphy. Caitlyn McAauliffe and Devin had some strong blocks, and Lexi and Maggie Marusich some great hits. Cat Liu and Ella Greenfield in the back row contributed to a convincing 25-11 win. The second set didn’t start so strong, with our Dons down 1-5. Strong play and serving by Mira Clark, and solid hits by Harper Fox and Jordyn Sawle brought us to 9-9. But then Rancho Cotati went on a 6 point run. The Dons scratched their way back with a signature Devin kill, and big serves from Ella and Sahar Norrozi to tie it back up at 19-19. From there a Mira hit, a Harper tip, and two big hits from Lexi closes out the match 26-22. Congratulations to Lexi Chaput for earning player of the match! Bring the Juice!

On Thursday, the girls faced a much tougher opponent in Moreau Catholic. After trading points most of the game, the team came from behind to bring the score to 23-10. Lexi’s ace serves, Devin’s kills and a final hit by Stella Degroot won the tight set 25-21. Set two was a different story, with the opponent out quickly to a 10-20 lead, and an eventual loss 14-25. Set three was a very tight battle, and the teams traded points for the majority of the game. Co-captain Lily Cervenka kept her composure and pumped the team up with good serves and sets, but ultimately the team fell to a 11-15 loss. Congratulations to Lily for earning player of the match!

This week the team is gearing up for league play, and proving Coach Roman’s predictions of a potential league win true. First up is away at Benicia on Thursday at 4:30pm. Come watch as the girls chase the frosh league title!
