Mission Accomplished by Dons Swim Team at Mission Viejo!

WHAT A MEET for the Varity Swim group that traveled to Mission Viejo for the 48th MVHS Invitational showcasing a competitive selection of HS teams from throughout California. Several Acalanes swimmers set season best times in their event(s). We had 20 of 36 make the finals, and overall DONS SWIM showed up in every way with speed, grit, spirit and sportsmanship.

Super Sophomore Sadie Suppiger let the GIRLS TEAM with 2 wins in both the 200 free 1:52.59, marking the 3rd fastest time ever for Acalanes in the 200, as well as the 100 backstroke where she bested her closest competitor by 2.5 seconds. Teammate Sophi MacKay also impressed by winning the 100 free with a blistering mid-season time of 52.09 which puts her at the 3rd fastest in Acalanes history. She followed that up with 2nd place in the 50 yard free with an equally impressive 24.01. Other double event finalists were: Sara Archer (200 Fr, 100 Fr), Ella Del Rosario (200 Fr, 500 Fr), Audrey Cox (200 Fr, 500 Fr), Taryn Veronda (200 IM, 100 Back), and Brooklyn Plomp (100 Fly, 100 Fr). Also making finals: Sarah Potter (50 Fr), Liv Hoppe (100 Fly), Jenny Haugner (100 Fly), Kaitlyn Keely (100 Fr), Daylor Williams (100 Breast), Wendy Heffelfinger (100 Breast), and Sarah McCarthy (100 Breast). The depth and strength of this year’s girls team was proven with not one but two 1st place finishes for the girls relays: the 200 Free relay (Suppiger, MacKay, Potter, Archer) and the 400 Free relay (Suppiger, MacKay, Archer, Del Rosario). The relay swims helped the GIRLS team finish with a fantastic 4th place overall.

Representing the BOYS TEAM, Junior Parker Etnyre really stood out with a 3rd place finish in the 200 free. His time of 1:42.57 puts him as 3rd fastest ever for the Acalanes boys. He also finished 5th in the 500 with a 4:45.45. On the sprint side, Christian Gotterup brought the heat with a personal best of 22.44 in the 50 and 49.42 in the 100 freestyle with 11th place finishes in both. Also fighting into the boys finals were: Grant Eubanks (Senior) finalist in the 100 fly and 100 back, posting NCS Consideration times in both, and Will Dryer in the 50 free and 100 breast. Hans Ramirez also finaled in the 50 free. The boys stood out in the 200 Free Relay of Gotterup, Eubanks, Dreyer and Etnyre finishing 3rd.
