Acalanes Boys Varsity Tennis Team Improves League Record to 2-1 with a Convincing Win Over College Park – Dons 8, Falcons 1

The Dons have three league matches to play the week of March 27.  This is a rare task and the direct result of Mother Nature’s non-stop rain over the past few weeks.  We kicked the week off with a dominating win over College Park.   Both teams were missing a top player.  Acalanes was without its #1 player Tyler Toni, and College Park was missing #2 Dariush Azarkhish.

The most competitive match of the nine, by far, was the #1 contest between Nick Owens and Dibyam Dikhit.  The 6-3, 6-3 loss does not reflect just how close the match was and the number of games that went to deuce.  It was a fun match to watch.  Owen was striking the ball cleanly, serving well and played an intelligent match.  He put up a good fight against a formidable opponent and made the team proud.  The rest of the matches were pretty lopsided.  All of the sets were won either 6-1 or 6-0 as College Park is experiencing a rebuilding year with a lot of new talent.

Weather permitting, we play Tuesday at home against Northgate and Thursday at home against College Park.  We will also be watching the ticker tape on Tuesday as Campo hosts Miramonte – it will be the battle of the two undefeated teams in our league.

It was a great day to watch tennis until the clouds rolled in and the temperature started dropping.  We also got to enjoy the loud AC/DC music accompanying the softball game which was right next to the tennis courts.  We shook them all night long!  I won’t ever forget to thank our parents who are so committed to coming out and supporting the team.  Thanks again.  Go Dons.  Coach Rick.
