Acalanes Girls Soccer won at least a portion of the DAL league title (pending results from other DAL games being played Tuesday and Thursday) and avenged their only loss of the season with a 2-0 win over Clayton Valley Tuesday night. The Dons first goal came late in the first half. With 2 minutes left in the half and under immense pressure, defender Tori Hiatt started a fast break with a pinpoint clearance pass 35 yards downfield to Nicole Nguyen who dribbled twice and delivered a perfect run-on pass 35 yards further on to a breaking Jacque Peacock. Peacock collected the ball and calmly slotted the ball in the lower right corner past the charging Clayton Valley goalie. The goal was Peacock’s 3rd game winning goal of the season, tying her with fellow senior Addie Bailey for the league lead.
Despite numerous Clayton Valley attempts to score in the second half, the 1-0 lead would hold until the very end when defender Demi Woods headed in a goal off of Tatum Zuber’s excellently placed corner kick 5 yards out from the goal. The 2-0 victory is the Dons’ 15th shutout of the season and 7th win in their last 8 outings. The Dons now await NCS seeding and schedule announcements to find out post-season next steps.
