Varsity Dons saddle up with the Northgate Broncos

Life is good being part of the Lafayette basketball community and extending that to the neighboring rivals and communities. Perhaps unlike most other high school sports, short of maybe soccer, high school basketball truly captures the spirit of the sport. You see kids who have spent their youth playing with and against each other through many years of basketball. Through CYO, club or summer programs, the aspiring hoopsters continually share the court with the same players, sometimes as teammates and sometimes as rivals. This game exemplified that, the spirit of sportsmanship was high in this game as the opposing teams held high respect for each other and the for the game.

The Dons travelled out to Northgate to take on the Broncos on their senior night. Northgate had some pyrotechnics to honor their seniors. There are times in sports and especially in basketball when it’s nerve-racking to watch the minute to minute play and then in reflection there is an appreciation for the magic of the game. The Broncos came out on fire. The Dons came out as they always do, as fighting Dons who draw energy from the opportunity to learn and lift their game.

It was a night where Northgate couldn’t miss and the Dons shots just weren’t dropping. The Dons did capture the hearts of the fans and highlights included watching Junior Cooper Edelman hitting shots, feeding assists and grabbing boards.

The season is winding down, don’t miss your chance to cheer on the Dons against Miramonte on Thursday night in Orinda.
