JV Girls Soccer Close Out Season with Close Game vs Clayton Valley

Tuesday was the last game of our 2022-23 JV Girls Soccer Season. So hard to believe it’s already over!

We knew the rematch against Clayton Valley High would be a challenge, having tied them on their home pitch just one month ago. Competition was tight from the start…before we knew it, Clayton Valley had back to back corner kicks, scoring a goal off the second one just under 3 minutes into the game! The Dons responded with aggressive play on both ends of the field. We saw some solid defense from Edie Berzansky, & great pressure by Alana Brinkman and Mollie Schofield. The first half closed with the Ugly Eagles ahead 1:0.

Acalanes started the second half strong and clearly dominated possession throughout the rest of the game. We saw strategic ball handling down the field by Lily Polkinhorn and Elodie Jensen, a nice run towards goal by Livi Foster, & great goal attempt by Lily. More callouts to Sof Cerruti for a solid corner kick, multiple saves by keeper Sara Tarnai. The offense was on fire with great passes by Zoya Acuña, Reiney Fish, Addie McShane, and Livi, with multiple shots on goal led by by Sisi Houston, Dani Green, & Livi. Sisi had back to back corner kicks on opposite sides of the goal but the Dons just weren’t able to repeat the tie with the Ugly Eagles this time around. Of course more terrific defense from the usual suspects, Edie, Sof, & Lidia Stahl. In the end the Dons lost to the Ugly Eagles 1:0.

Couldn’t be more proud of our JV Girls Dons who had 9 league wins, 3 ties, and only 3 losses—only losing by 1 goal in each of those rare defeats. Pre-season play also dominated with 4 wins, with 1 tie, and 1 loss. Great season, Dons!
