The torrential downpour let up Thursday evening just in time for a pivotal match against the visiting Campolindo Cougars. The Cougars and Dons peppered each other with physical play, active hands, and multiple foul calls. Campo hit hard against the Dons in the first half as the Dons defense, led by senior Chloe Quintella and sophomore Demi Woods, withstood the onslaught. Momentum swung for the Dons in the second, with multiple scoring opportunities unable to find the back of the net.
In the game of attrition, senior goalie Catherine Judson weathered a storm of free kick set pieces with crucial finger tip saves. The chess match ended with a 0-0 tie.
In Tuesday’s action, Acalanes girls varsity beat Alhambra 2-0 for its first league win. Great play in the first half by Acalanes defenders senior Taylor Carlin, senior Chloe Quintella, sophomore Demi Woods, freshman Victoria Hiatt and freshman Tatum Keely shut down Alhambra’s attack until Senior Addie Bailey scored with a 30 yard blast seconds before halftime to put the Dons up 1-0.
Bailey followed up with another score early in the second half off of a steal and pass from sophomore Lucca DeBiasse to make it 2-0. Strong midfield play in the second half by senior Tatum Zuber, senior Emmi Cronin, junior Ella Thomason, sophomore Nicole Nguyen, sophomore Alex Salazar, and DeBiasse kept the pressure on but the Dons couldn’t put another in the net.
