Varsity Dons host Northgate Broncos

The game opened up with Jake Davis tipping to Theo Stoll who drove down and started to work the floor.

The first couple of sequences on both sides came up empty but then Jake had a sweet pass to Jack Bayless for a layup and the first bucket of the game. Then Theo grabbed a defensive board and drove down for a layup. Jake was working the boards and Justin Zegarowski and Theo got into the mix each with a rebound.

Jake drove the lane for 2 and had a big block. Theo fed Jack for 2 and Ian Salmon for a sweet spin move to put up a bucket.

Tough Dons defense caused a turnover and the first period ended with another block from Jake, giving the Dons a 10-7 lead.

The Dons got going in the second period with Jake putting up a bucket on an assist from Theo then Jake had a turnaround jumper on a dish from Jack, the home crowd was loving it!

Jack and Justin were attacking the boards and Theo hit a couple of free-throws then kept feeding his teammates, this time dishing to Jordan Brown who went underneath for a bucket. Zubin Acuna got into the mix hitting a deep 3 on yet another Theo assist.

Late in the period Theo had a crazy behind the head hook pass to Jack for a reverse layup then Theo had a deep 3 of his own. The Dons held onto a 27-22 lead at the end of the half.

Jake, Jack, Justin and Theo kept working the boards in the 3rd period. Early in the period Theo had another 3, Jake had another assist to Jack and then Justin went coast to coast driving for a layup. It was a tight game, as the Dons would build a lead but then the Broncos would chip away. Theo had another big 3 but then Northgate answered with a 3 point play and the game was tied with 1:49 left in the period.

Jake had another board and dished to Ian who had another basket but the Dons trailed by 1 at the end of the period.

The Dons are never short on entertainment and never shy away from a challenge, and the fourth period was yet another nail-biter.

The lead changed back and forth throughout the final 8 minutes of the game. Zubin hit a big 3 late in the period, firing up the home crowd. Theo had another dish to Jake for a bucket. The Broncos were able to hold onto the lead late in the game as the time ran out.
