Acalanes played host to Lamorinda rival Miramonte on Saturday afternoon and handled the Mats with a 3-0 victory. The Dons controlled the entire contest with play on the Miramonte side of the field for almost all of the game.
The Dons were on the attack throughout the first half with strong shots from Lily Polkinhorn, Zoya Acuna and Mollie Schofield. Addie McShane opened the scoring for Acalanes with a brilliant misdirection shot that snuck in the corner of the goal. Minutes later Dani Green hammered a shot off the post and in, to give the Dons a 2-0 lead at the half.
The second half was similar to the first, with the Dons controlling play and quickly eliminating any threat from the Matador offense. The defensive line of Edie Berzansky, Sofia Cerruti, Mollie Schofield, Katelyn Weiss did not allow a single shot attempt from Miramonte. Acuna, Polkinhorn, Sisi Houston and Elodie Jensen controlled the middle of the field and kept the Dons on the offensive. McShane once again got things going for Acalanes with a great move and score early in the second half to give the Dons a commanding 3-0 lead. Houston and Jensen also had great shots in the second half that were saved by the Mats.
With the victory, the Dons improve to 12-2-4 on the season and 5-1-3 in league play. Next up is a game at Campolindo Tuesday at 5.
