JV Girls Soccer Defeats Campolindo and Las Lomas

On Thursday night the JV girls’ soccer team hosted the Campolindo Cougars. It was a defensive battle in the pouring rain with the Dons coming up victorious 1-0.

The lone goal of the contest came early in the second half. Zoya Acuna raced to a deflected ball and fired it over the goalie’s head to give the Dons the lead. Sisi Houston and Reiney Fish had strong games and stellar play from goalie Sophie Gold led to another shutout as the Dons won 1-0.

On Tuesday the Dons hosted the Las Lomas Knights. Livi Foster got things started for Acalanes with an early breakaway goal to give the Dons a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the contest.

Along with Foster, Dani Green had several nice runs and shots, as did Sisi Houston. Maya Shinaman had a close shot on goal right before half but the Dons couldn’t break through, and the score stood at 1-0 at the break.

Zoya Acuna, Reiney Fish and Lillian Polkinhorn had strong games controlling the middle of the field for Acalanes. On defense, Sofia Cerruti, Edie Berzansky, Mollie Schofield, Katelyn Weiss, and Alana Brinkman cleared many of the Las Lomas attacks.

Dons goalie Sophie Gold once again had several key saves and goalie Sara Tarnai came in to finish the combined shut out. Final score: Acalanes 1, Las Lomas 0.

The Dons have allowed just four goals against in 11 games this year, while scoring 37. Acalanes improves to 8-1-2 on the season and 4-0-1 in league play. The Dons travel to Clayton Valley on Thursday night with JV playing at 5pm and Varsity at 7pm. Go Dons!
