Frosh girls continued their winning streak against Miramonte on Saturday with an early morning 2-0 victory. The first goal of the game came off of a corner kick by team captain #3 Stella Pacheco. The ball rolled right past two confused defenders and into the back of the net, ending the first half with Acalanes in the lead 1-0.
Our Frosh girls dominated the second half, keeping the ball on our side of the field with excellent ball handling and passing, and multiple scoring opportunities. But it was an assist from #7 Katherine Avnaim, finding #11 Julia Munter right in front of the net for Julia’s first goal of the season, ending the game in 2-0 shut-out victory for Acalanes.
Just a few hours later, our Frosh girls lost to Las Lomas 0-1 in a hard-fought battle on our home field. The game was fast-paced and physical from the start, with the majority of the play time spent at the midfield and a few incredible saves by our goalie #6 Maya Shoenhair. The first half ended with the two teams bruised and locked up 0-0.
In the second half, Las Lomas began to dominate, keeping the ball on their side of the field with many shots on goal and multiple impressive saves by #6 Maya Shoenhair and great defensive play by #15 Cassidy Smith. Las Lomas finally got a goal off a corner kick by lobbing the ball over Maya’s head, giving them the lead 0-1. Acalanes turned up the heat and had lots of runs but the Las Lomas defense was strong. With only a few minutes remaining, #10 Kate Uffelman was tripped up while heading for the goal and Acalanes got a free kick about 20 yards out. #14 Brooke Rardin took the kick and made a powerful shot that zipped over the goalie’s head and, sadly, hit the top crossbar—just inches from tying the game. It was a heartbreaking 0-1 loss, but we are so proud of our Frosh girls for giving it their all.
