Tuesday 1/17, the Dons welcomed the Windsor Jaguars to our home pitch. From the start, I am pleased to report that Acalanes dominated possession, but these Jaguars did put up a fight! Off the top I’ll call out some great defense by Lidia Stahl and Sof Cerruti, as well as impressive stops & ball movement by Mollie Schofield and Lily Polkinhorn. After multiple goal attempts by Zoya Acuna, Livi Foster, Maya Shinaman & Reiney Fish, Zoya delivered a perfect pass to Livi to score Acalanes’ first goal as a Captain Combo! More highlights from the first half included solid defense by Edie Berzanzky, an impressive breakaway towards the goal by Elodie Jensen, as well as a beautiful cross by Dani Green to Elodie for another attempt on goal.
The Dons continued to control the game from the start of the second half. Many great crosses and attempts on goal—including a corner kick by Sisi Houston, shots on goal by Reiney, Zoya (I lost count!), Dani, Livi & Haadeh Sanchez. Our team captains came together once again, with Zoya feeding another clean pass to Livi who completed goal #2. So much effort on the field by so many of our girls to keep the Dons in scoring position: tenacious offense and amazing footwork by Lily, Elodie, Kailee Van Handel, Addie McShane, and Alana Brinkman, moving the ball downfield, and more solid defense be Sof Cerruti, Edie Berzansky, Lidia Stahl, & Katelyn Weiss. The Dons racked up goal #3 thanks to an amazing breakaway and score by Dani Green. Once again, our keepers Sophie Gold & Sara Tarnai allowed the Jaguars not one goal!
In the end, Acalanes defeated the Jaguars 3 to 0. The Dons will be back in action at home on Thursday vs College Park – JV at 5pm and Varsity at 7pm.
