Wednesday afternoon, 9/14, Acalanes welcomed the Alhambra Bulldogs for our last pre-season ladies volleyball game.
The Varsity Dons started off the first set strong, dominating the Bulldogs with a seemingly endless service run by middle Katelyn Olin. In addition to Olin’s 8 aces as a subset of an 18 point run on serve, Monica Dikova once again demonstrated deft play at the net with multiple hits and blocks against Alhambra. More help in the front row from Sofie Foster, Hanna Hageboeck, & Apple Walton supported the Dons’ offense. Jade Profilio laid down the last point on service, the Dons defeating the Dogs 25 – 5.
Set 2 started off a bit closer, a ping pong of points keeping the score 4 – 4 before the Dons pulled ahead. Highlights leading the Dons to victory included superb sets & serves from Mara Korzeniowska, service by Georgia Winkles and Jade Profilio, many deep digs on defense by Winkles, and an onslaught of front row kills by Monica Dikova, Ryann Jones, Ava Bunton, & Walton. Bunton dropped the finishing kill on the second set to bring the Dons to a win 25 – 9.
The Acalananes Ladies did not falter in their continued attack on the Bulldogs going into set 3. Ava Bunton started the Dons’ off fighting, alternately digging on defense and hitting at the net. Despite the Dogs stepping up for some prolonged rallies, the combination of a run on kills by Olin, more strong defense & a back row hit by Mika Bocobo, un-gettable serves by setter Emme Seelenbacher, Lyanne Wang, Hageboeck, & Profilio put the Dons in a distant lead early on. Blocks by Olin & Bunton, more runs on serve by Korzeniowska & Mason, and a final kill by middle Sofie Foster, ended the 3rd set 25 – 8, the Dons defeating the Dogs in 3 sets
Campo game is at home, Thursday, Sept 22nd @6:30!
Please come cheer on the dons!!
Acalanes JV girls volleyball team moves to 12-1 with victory over Alhambra
Well, it wasn’t pretty. Not all victories look the same and come easy. Finishing up the preseason with a home matchup against Alhambra, our Acalanes JV volleyball may have still been a bit tired from the 6 games they played over the weekend. Due to sheer talent and determination, our girls were able to overcome some early mistakes in set 1 and win 25-23. Nisa Khoury finished off set 1 with a solid kill at 24-23 to make sure this game wasn’t going 3 sets. Set two looked much better with our trademark communication, strength, and masterful serving. Campbell Evans started off the set with powerful serves that gave us an early lead. Sophia Terry had a monstrous kill straight down to increase our lead. Stella Larkin’s jump serves kept evading Alhambra’s out-stretched arms to keep the early lead intact. Piper Coy had multiple aces and a sweet cross kill for the clinching point to win set 2, 25-10. It was good to see our team face a bit of adversity and overcome it convincingly. League opens on Tuesday against Benicia.
