Sept. 14th 6pm. Heaston Aquatic Center
Dons vs. Sacred Heart Prep Gators of Atherton
The home crowd was sparse and flat to start the match, as the Dons dragged through the first half, allowing the Gators to stay in the game throughout. After the 1st quarter of play, the Dons had a 3-2 advantage, led by a pair of laser beam goals by the Sara’s (Archer & Potter) and a sweet break away, coast to coast goal by Ella Del Rosario. The teams traded goals in the 2nd quarter, ending the half with a 6-4 lead. The 3rd quarter was led by the Dons top three scorers, who each scored in the period, Freshman Ella Del Rosario (3 goals), Junior Brooklyn Plomp (3 goals) and Senior, Sara Archer (3 goals). In the 4th quarter, Ella Del Rosairo and Brooklyn Plomp showed flash and power respectively on an unbelievable backhand goal in set, leveraging cat like quickness. The robust right arm of Brooklyn’s top shelf fire balls ripping twine. The game closed out with several defensive stops and a season high 11 saves from Senior Goalie, Audrey Cox.
On the heels of a tough loss to our cross town rivals over the weekend, the Dons bounced back in a big way with a resilient home win against Sacred Heart. The Dons moved to 6-1 on the season and continue to show great strength & energy with the starting 7 and talented depth from various rotations off the bench.
Next up for the Lady Dons, two competitive home games on Saturday against Santa Cruz @ 9am and Soquell @ 1pm.
