Dons Fall to the Powerhouse Matadors

Girls Water Polo

The undefeated and Nationally ranked powerhouse, Miramonte Matadors visited the Heaston Aquatic Center for the first game of two DAL matches this season.  The Mats have rolled through every team they’ve played this year with an average margin of victory of 7 goals.  Featuring a talented roster full of D1 recruits, the Dons had the toughest test of the season in front of them.

In front of a packed and lively crowd, the Dons came out with energy and fight, showcasing their defense in a tight 1st quarter.  Senior Goalie, Audrey Cox had 5 blocks and a steal in the quarter and the offense came to play!  Starting with a lightening quick backhand goal from Alexa Carter and a well-executed, shoot and score from Brooklyn Plomp.  3-2 Mats at the end of the first.

Miramonte showed their strength and fire power from the 2nd quarter onward, and ripped through the Lady Dons en route to an 11-4 win.  Senior Sarah Potter had a nice top shelf laser beam shot past the goalie in the 3rd and Freshman Addison Dankworth, played big minutes in a huge game.  Scoring on a nifty skip shot on a 5 meter penalty shot in the 4th.

Next up…  The Dons get a much awaited rematch against bitter rival, Campolindo Cougars, in what should be one of the best games of the season.  You won’t want to miss this one!  A Battle Royal for 2nd place in the DAL is up for grabs.
