Volleyball Weekend Success: Ready for Season to Start

GIRLS VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

This past Saturday, the Acalanes Ladies Varsity Volleyball team came out strong against formidable opponents at the 2022 East County Tournament hosted by Deer Vally High School in Antioch. The Dons started their day holding their own against the highly skilled San Ramon Valley Wolves; despite well executed kills by Katelyn Olin, Hanna Hageboeck, & Ryann Jones, assisted by seasoned setter Mara Korzeniowska, the Dons scored well, but lost in 2 sets. Our ACA ladies went on to dominate Heritage High School of Brentwood, handily winning in 2 sets. Acalanes parents were then on the edge of their seats for the Acalanes vs Campolindo game; great serving runs by Jade Profilio, and deep digs by Lyanne Wang, helped the Dons win the first set. Unfortunately, set 2 didn’t go our way…we fought hard in the 3rd set to succumb to the Cougars 15-12. Acalanes reset and came back ready to win their battle against local Northgate Broncos; Consistent serving, solid blocks and clean kills led to a Dons’ victory in 2 sets. Our final match against Castro Valley started at the end of a very long & hot day, with the Dons winning 25-21 in the first set. The Trojans fought to turn it around beating us 25-21 in the second set. The Dons dug deep to play the 3rd but missed the win 15-10.

GIRLS JV VOLLEYBALL

What a great way to kick-off the season for the newly formed JV Girls Volleyball team at the Campolindo Jamboree!  With just 4 practices under their belt, the team showed amazing camaraderie and enthusiasm that bodes quite well for the rest of the season. Miramonte, Head Royce, Las Lomas, Northgate, Cal High, Campolindo, Branson, and Granada were all there to battle in 20 minutes round robin games.  Although no scores were kept officially, our Vball parents may have been keeping track.  Let’s just say, we are really looking forward to the rest of the season.  Go Dons!
