The Acalanes Girls Soccer Team headed to San Francisco on Tuesday to take on University High School in the first round of the CIF NorCal Soccer Championship – Division III. The game started off with University having the momentum and really testing the defense. The Dons remained calm and figured out how to work the ball up the field and took the lead in the first half on a Natalie Means break away after a nice pass up the gap by Addie Bailey. The score remained 1-0 until 10 minutes left in the 2nd half when University was able to cash in on a breakaway goal to even the score. Regulation ended with a 1-1 tie and the two teams played a 15 minute overtime period during which no one was able to get anything in the net. From there the game went to penalty kicks. Back and forth it went and Acalanes fell short on the 12th round of penalty kicks for a heartbreaking loss. The defense of Jacque Peacock, Sammy Hess, Taylor Carlin, Chloe Quintella, Katherine Montoya, and Demi Woods was stout all game making stop after stop and play after play. Catherine Judson was magnificent in goal, stopping some tough shots especially in the penalty kick portion of the game.
All of the girls should be recognized and celebrated as this was a sensational team. They were tough, smart, gritty and fun to watch. They cared and played for each other. This team will go down in Acalanes history as one of the best teams to ever take the field with a final record of 20 wins and 3 losses, which does not even come close to representing how great of a team they actually are. It was clear to anyone who watched this team play that their potential was endless. Their representation of Acalanes was outstanding and they all should be very proud of their accomplishments. GO DONS!
