Boy’s Varsity Tennis Team Gets Revenge on Northgate in Another Very Close Match: Dons 6, Broncos 3

The varsity boys’ team evened the score with Northgate on Tuesday.  In our first meeting, Northgate defeated Acalanes 6-3 with several extremely close matches.  The same happened Tuesday but this time Acalanes turned the tables.  Four matches were settled by third-set tiebreakers, and the Acalanes boys won all of them.  We were missing #1 Tyler Toni and #3 Luke Brightbill.  The team had to scramble a bit, but we leveraged our depth and rallied to win three of the six singles matches and then swept all three doubles.

With this win, the team improved to 3-3 in league play for the season.  There were so many highlights and standouts that it’s hard to mention them all.  The scores tell the story.  Generally speaking, the boys are improving so much.  They are also maturing in how they approach opponents, analyze strengths and weaknesses, and convert tentativeness to confidence.  The team spirit and comradery they bring to every match is inspiring.  There are no seniors and freshmen on the team, just 19 varsity players who win and lose as a team and support each other unconditionally.  Really good stuff!

We play College Park away on March 31.  The boys then go on a well-earned spring break where they can recharge their batteries.  In some cases, it will give our injured players a chance to heal.
At each match, we’re seeing more and more family members.  The team can’t thank you enough for the support.  The team and booster moms are doing a great job, and we also thank the drivers.  We have had zero issues with rides, snacks, pictures, jerseys, fundraising, etc.  Go Dons!
