The Dons hosted Archie Williams Wednesday evening for the NCS semifinal match. Going into the game, the Dons knew that Archie Williams would put up a good fight, but the Dons were determined to win. With each move that the Falcons made, the Dons had the answer. The first 28 minutes of the game remained scoreless, but with each minute that passed, the momentum kept building in favor of the Dons. The Dons finally broke through when senior Sammy Hess passed the ball near the sideline to fellow senior Natalie Means who promptly juked her defender, was off to the races dribbling toward the goal and finished with an unstoppable shot. With 3 minutes left in the half, Means crossed the ball to fellow senior Lauren Yee who expertly finished low into the back of the net. Acalanes went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The Falcons came out of the halftime break frantically trying to regain momentum, but once again the Dons were relentless and had wave after wave of pressure in response. Means scored her second and the final goal of the match with a beautiful dribble and finish after a nice long pass served by junior Chloe Quintella with 27 minutes left in the game. Acalanes finished the game showcasing the team’s tremendous depth and determination, not only to win, but also to maintain their defensive shutout. The final score was 3-0 in favor of the Dons.
The Dons are looking forward to playing in the NCS Championship game on Saturday at 2:00pm against Branson High School. Go Dons!
